Silica Hazard Identification
Each year, 300 people die from a disease called Silicosis
- Silicosis is a lung disease caused by workers’ breathing dust containing silica particles.
- Acute silicosis develops after short periods of high exposure.
Chronic silicosis occurs after 10 or more years’ exposure at lower levels.-
There (Silicosis) is no cure.-
Possible lung cancer.-

The electrical and machine safeguarding program applies to the use of various safeties
devices and equipment to prevent employees from being injured while operating
machinery or working on or near electrical equipment. This program specifically
Outlines the definitions, procedures and training requirements to be utilized by Millersville
University employees to safeguard against injury when working on, with, or near
mechanical or electrical equipment. It is the duty of each employee to become familiar
with the contents of this program and ensure compliance with its procedures. Heads of
departments shall ensure that employees under their supervision receive training in the
contents of this program and ensure records of this training are maintained.

Introduction
Throughout industry there continues to be a growing awareness of the importance of
HSE activities. Originally HSE concerns were low level and were thought of as a
moral issue, it was wrong to hurt people at work. Then HSE became a management
issue, although largely driven by cost. Now the HSE culture has returned to a moral
imperative, but not driven within the organization. Rather it has been driven by the
change in society at large. The growth of the Media, the availability of information,
and the instant pictures that television provides of every horrific accident has caused a
ground swell of opinion in Communities, Governments and NGO’s that HSE
performance is an important aspect of our world and of business culture
